Insurance Claim Help
We guide you through every step, from inspection to the finished roof.
The Claims Process
When severe weather damages your roof, your insurance may pay for the repairs. Here's how it works with us.
- 1
Inspection
Don't wait. We inspect your roof and document the damage with photos and measurements.
- 2
File a Claim
You call your insurance company. We help you understand your policy and build the case.
- 3
Adjuster Meeting
Your insurer sends an adjuster. We're on the roof with you to make sure it's inspected thoroughly.
- 4
Claim Decision
The insurance company approves or denies. If it isn't approved, we take the next steps with you.
- 5
Payment
You pay your deductible, if you have one. Insurance pays the rest of the approved work.
- 6
The Job Begins
You get a dedicated project manager, and we leave your property as good as new.
After a Storm
Take photos right away
Document the damage. Photos of your home from before the storm help a lot.
Review your policy
Find your declarations page. It shows your coverage type and your deductible.
Call your insurance company
Report the damage and write down your claim number. Tell them you're working with your contractor of choice.
Review paperwork with us
Don't submit documents to your insurer without going over them with us first.
Protect the roof
Temporary repairs like tarping reduce further damage. They may need to be paid up front while the claim is reviewed. We add them to your claim and work to get them covered.
Know Your Policy
Actual Cash Value
Basic coverage. Pays what the damaged item was worth, with depreciation deducted.
Replacement Cost Value
The more popular policy. Covers replacement without deducting depreciation.
Guaranteed Replacement
The most premium policy. Pays whatever it costs to rebuild, even above the policy limit.
Claims Glossary
ACV (Actual Cash Value)
The value of the damaged roof after depreciation. Insurers often send an initial ACV check first.
RCV (Replacement Cost Value)
The cost to replace with new, with no deduction for depreciation. With an RCV policy you can receive an additional check for the difference between ACV and RCV.
Deductible
The portion of the claim you pay. It is insurance fraud for a contractor to cover or waive it.
Insurance adjuster
Inspects the damage and determines how much the insurance company should pay.
Public adjuster
A professional whose job is to protect your interests in a claim against the insurance company.
Depreciation
An accounting method that spreads the cost of an asset over its useful life. It reduces what an ACV policy pays.
Scope of work
What work will be done, why, how, and what it costs. The insurer reviews our estimate and returns a scope of everything it approves.
We never cover your deductible
Contractors who offer to cover or waive your deductible are committing insurance fraud. We do things the honest way. You pay your deductible, and the insurance check covers the rest of the approved work. If you want upgrades that insurance doesn't cover, we'll build a payment plan that works for you.
Questions
What should my first steps be?
Take photos of the damage, gather your policy documents, and call your insurance company. Then call us for a free inspection. A large claim is basically a business negotiation, and there are laws and rules that give you rights.
How can I get a fair settlement?
Don't accept an insurance company's calculation of what they owe without getting other opinions. An estimate from a licensed local contractor who has visited your roof is generally the most reliable basis for a settlement.
The insurance company's pricing doesn't match local prices. What can I do?
Insurers use guideline pricing and estimating software. Your insurer owes you what an experienced, reputable contractor would charge to restore your home to its pre-loss condition. We document that for you.
Will you cover my deductible?
No. Roofing contractors who say they will cover your deductible are committing insurance fraud. We pride ourselves on being honest and fair, and we don't compromise on our ethics.
Do I need bids from other contractors?
No. You can choose the contractor you want. If you submit multiple estimates, your insurer will most likely go with the cheapest rather than the best quality option.
What if my claim is denied or only partly approved?
It isn't the end. You have the right to ask your insurance company for a second adjuster inspection. Mitigate the damage as soon as possible, and consider financing so repairs aren't delayed while the claim is negotiated.
Does my policy cover flood damage?
Standard homeowners insurance typically does not cover water damage from storm surge. That is what flood insurance is for. Check your policy.
